Here at Zuma Jay we have just had a fresh batch of the latest boards from Pyzel Surfboards The Stubby Bastard and the JJF Slab 2.0 We are stoked to get are hands on this so we thought we would give you a little bit more information on these boards.
The Stubby Bastard provides you with the best of both worlds, an ultra high-performance shortboard and a stubby step-down that is a great addition to any quiver.
Pyzel have taken JJFs favorite high-performance shortboard, The Bastard, and squashed it down into a fun, fast, super skatey, all-wave shred sled. They chopped 3 inches off the nose, which pushed the wide point forward, added a little thickness up front and also lowered the entry rocker. Additionally, Pyzel filled in the rail to add a little more overall volume and forgiveness. All of the bottom contours (single concave throughout) remain the same.
What you end up with is a fast, loose and responsive board that can fit into tight, curvy little waves, extremely well, but will still hold its speed and flow in weaker, mushy surf.
The JJF Slab 2.0 is a new, updated version of Pyzel Slab. John John has been riding this design for the past year, and even rode one in the 2015 Quiksilver Pro at Snapper, scoring a 9.23 in weak, slow conditions. After hearing his feedback about wanting something that would work better in those kinds of waves, they took the original Slab and made some significant changes to the bottom contours and rocker. Pyzel added a deeper, full concave that starts in the nose and blends into deep double concave through the back 1/3 of the board. They also dropped the tail rocker by a full 1/4 inch and made slight adjustments to the the nose rocker to better suit the forward concave.
The outline is 1/4'' wider in the nose, and just under 1/8' wider through the tail.
All these changes have created a board that has more lift and drive than the original Slab, which allows you to get more speed and flow in even smaller, weaker waves than the original could ideally handle.
These boards are available instore and online, With custom orders also available. Pop in and take a look for your self,
