Learn to surf

Learning to surf is one of the most enjoyable experiences out there and Bude has a number of Surf Schools designed to make it as fun as possible! Not only do the lessons give a perfect starting platform for learning the techniques, they also teach you all the vital surf safety needed when continuing after your lesson! Once you've had your lesson, your next stage will be to hire out some equipment and keep practising!

We recommend a number of schools that operate in the local area with the rates and beaches varying accordingly:

Bude Surfing Experience (B.S.X) runs surfing lessons and surf courses at Summerleaze Beach just outside the Bude town centre. Established in 1979 it is one of the longest running surf schools in south west England. They offer surf tuition for beginners and experienced surfers, for individuals, families and groups.

Surfing lessons with the B.S.X centre can provide you with the ultimate thrill. We've got great waves, a beautiful beach, first rate equipment and a professional instructor crew. We can guarantee quality, fun and enjoyment within a framework of safety.

But that's not all! The BSX Centre has many facilities including indoor changing facilities, hot showers, comfortable accommodation, a brand new bar and spacious grounds ideal for group bookings.

Mike Raven Surf School is regarded as one of the best surf schools in Cornwall and the UK. It has recently been awarded ' Centre of Excellence ' status by the British Surfing Association and provides very high quality surf lessons in Cornwall to all levels! Learn to surf with former British, English and European champion Mike Raven and his team of proffessional surf coaches!

As well as the beginner/intermediate surf lessons, Mike also caters for the more experianced surfers looking for that key advice to reach the next level in their surfing! Using video analysis and written reports, Mike will use his excellent knowledge of surfing to help with even the smallest of errors that may be holding you back!

As with most of the schools, all equipment is included. Raven Surf School runs from Widemouth Bay which is regarded as one of the safest and cleanest beaches to learn on in Cornwall.

Shoreline is more of an outdoor activity school rather than teaching just surfing. They provide a large range of activities and events and work with a wide diversity of customers

So you’re thinking of learning to surf? Great! Whether you are looking for a great family day out in the South West or for surfing lessons for your kids, for your school, just for women and girls, or as a group or corporate event, then you’ve come to the right place. As long as you are over 8 years old, are reasonably fit and can swim 50 metres we can teach you to surf.

We are one of just a few surf schools with top British Surfing Association qualifications and keep a higher coach to student ratio than most surf schools - because learning to surf safely is vital.

We can provide surfing lessons in British Sign Language or French & Italian and have coaches who are specially trained to provide surf tuition for disabled children and children with autism.
